Reiki for Horses
Horses love Reiki! They respond to it quickly, intuitively knowing that it is good for them. Reiki can and does help with typical issues with horses on either a physical, emotional or behavioural level. But, in my opinion, not all Reiki healers are created equal. I have heard of, and seen, many instances where Reiki healers have inserted their ego into a session and left an owner feeling bad about herself and her relationship with or management of her horse. This should NEVER happen. If you are ever working with a horse healer that makes you feel like that, ask him or her to leave. It is not our job to judge you. Our job is to allow the healing channel to expose what is needs to, provide solace and a healing environment for both horse and owner.
In my teachings, I continually remind you that you are not just going to visit the horse for a healing session, you are there to help lock in the bonding between horse and owner. Very often, I stand in the front of the horse and he quickly diverts me to the owner’s issues, telling me what issues she may be having and what he needs for me to do. Of course, it isn’t always that way and many, many sessions are fully focused on the horse. But, with the owner present, a healing bubble is created between the three of us. No one inside this bubble can escape the transmitting of healing energy.
What can you expect?
I can only speak for my process of course. I usually stand back and ask the horse – in my mind – if it is okay with him that I work with him that day. When the moment feels right, I will move closer to him. Often, I do not need to touch the horse, but he will quickly start to feel relaxed. If it feels right, I will put my hands on him. if not, I will channel the energy hands-off.
I don’t allow anyone other than the owner to be present. This is out of respect for the horse and his right to privacy. We DO so many things TO our horses that I feel the healing session is one time when the horse truly gets his rights respected.
How long does a session last?
Typically, around an hour for the healing but I am generally with a client for 1.5 hours or more.
Do all Reiki sessions include animal communication?
No, not necessarily. Many healers do not have these abilities or are not confident enough to trust the information that they are getting. I do not promote myself as an animal communicator but it happens and I am confident enough to trust when it is information from the horse and my own spirit guides
Will it help me to bond with my horse?
Yes, I love it when the horse turns to the owner and starts grooming her and this happens a lot. If an owner is open to the whole process and is willing to make any changes according to what happens with the horse, you will definitely see or feel a difference in your relationship with your horse. That can’t be guaranteed of course as every session is different.
Can you explain what you mean?
Yes, for example I visited one horse three times. The horse was dragging his owner up the field and she was getting scared. Right from the moment I stood next to him, the horse told me what the problem was and what the owner needed to do to rectify it. Afterwards, we walked the horse up and down the track without issue. He was happy.
On the second visit, the owner had called out a horse trainer (well-known) in-between my visits, who had advised her to use a huge rope to lead the horse (I mean HUGE), like the type of rope that you moor boats with! Had it solved the problem? No, of course not and the horse was pretty pissed off that his wishes had been ignored. I connected with the horse, told the owner he was angry and what he wanted her to do. It turned out she had tried various horse psychics looking for the answer she wanted to hear, rather than the answer that the horse was giving.
On the third visit. the horse was still angry bu the softened with me instantly, still hoping for a positive outcome. Things had got worse because the owner point blank refused (consciously or sub-consciously) to listen to her horse, I told her that he horse was a beautiful being and that he really did not have a problem that could not be solved if she would listen. In the end, I had to say I was sorry to the horse and tell the owner that I could not help her unless she was truly prepared to listen to her horse. As frustrating as this is, fortunately it is not common. Most people, if they have called you in, are willing to work with the horse to make changes In instances like this, I simply focus a lot of energy on things improving for the horse. For this wonderful animal, at only four years old, I hoped that he went to a new home where he would be better understood and listened to.
How can it help with behavioural issues?
It just does, mostly, I think, because the horse has a chance to have his say and the healing helps to let go of any negativity that he may be carrying around. Once I visited a little pony who had issues about being approached from the left side. She also trashed her bed every single night. As soon as I started healing her she gave me pictures of abuse. I saw her legs being tied together as she was wrestled to the floor by three men (on her left side) and then she was left on the floor tied up like that!!!!
The owner said that it did make sense as the pony had come from a dealer in wales with a bad reputation. This is not uncommon practice in these sorts of places apparently. I advised on what to do for the management of approaching the pony from the left side and went home.
A few weeks later, I received an email saying that the pony was much better and seemed happier. But, one of the major changes was in the bed trashing because she no longer did it. The pony was heard, she was able to explain to her new owners why she had problems and that was enough for her to be able to start letting go.
Will it help with physical issues?
In many cases, yes, but it does depend on the reason for the physical issues. One horse I visited kept going lame. Upon questioning, it turned out he was for sale and only went lame when someone came to view him. Cheeky monkey! The great outcome of this was that the owner decided to keep him after all, at which he was delighted!
It can help to relieve pain, fear, discomfort and many other things. But, sometimes, horses decide when it is their time and nothing we do will change their mind. There is an order to life I now believe but I do try to help these horses to find some solace and joy in making a recovery.
How far will you travel?
Unfortunately, I now only travel a maximum distance of 25 miles
How much does a session cost?
A typical session will last up to 2 hours, as I like to get a full history of the horse, you may end up having healing yourself and, well we have to be open to whatever happens. So, a session is £65.00 plus travel. If there are more than one horse to see, we can negotiate on costs depending on how many horses. To be fair, I can only really work with up to four horses in a day.
Can you teach me how to do Reiki?
Yes I can, I am a Reiki master Teacher and have attuned people to Reiki 1, 2 & 3 for many years. I have rested for a few years but am now ready to teach again. You do need to start working with the Reiki energy for a while before embarking on working with the energy at a practitioner level, but it is an enjoyable and often life changing journey for most. Simply contact me on the contact form and we can work something out for you. I only work one to one.
I also have the Reiki for Horses Kindle book and I am currently in the process of rewriting this to be sold as a printed copy on Amazon.
